Clinical Fellowship Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center

Augusta, Georgia is home of the Master’s Tournament and offers a variety of activities for the outdoor enthusiast. Augusta is home to a large medical community and the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center (CNVAMC) is one of six medical centers within the area. The CNVAMC is a two division medical center and has been designated as a Level II Polytrauma site. CNVAMC has CARF accredited programs for inpatient rehabilitation in Spinal Cord Injury, Subacute/Medical Rehabilitation, and Blind Rehabilitation.


Clinical fellows (CFs) are encouraged to be active participants in interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary teams in patient care. CFs evaluate and treat cognitive communication impairments, motor speech disorders, voice disorders, aphasia, and swallowing disorders related to a variety of diagnoses, including stroke, spinal cord injury, head and neck cancer, TBI, etc. CFs receive training in instrumental assessment and treatment, including modified barium swallow studies, FEES, and stroboscopy. CFs will gain experience by working in acute care, inpatient rehabilitation, outpatient clinics, and community living centers. CFs work closely with many specialty services and teams, including gastroenterology, radiology, neurology, neuropsychology, rehabilitation medicine, nutrition, pulmonology, otorhinolaryngology, primary care physicians, and the TBI/Polytrauma program.


CFs with a strong medical speech pathology background, strong academic background, and the desire to grow professionally in a diverse learning environment are encouraged to apply.


The Clinical Fellowship stipend is for 1 year (12 months, Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week) and pays approximately $39,226.00 plus benefits. Health insurance is also available and costs vary depending upon coverage.

The Clinical Fellowship may begin as early as June 1, 2018.

We currently have 3 full-time Speech Pathologists at our two-division Medical Center. Some examples of opportunities for experience include: MBSS, FEES, stroboscopy, trach/vent, laryngectomy rehabilitation/TEP, TBI (including mild TBI), CVA/aphasia, dysphagia therapy, AAC evaluation and treatment, and voice evaluation and therapy. Our team covers inpatient, outpatients, and residents in our Community Living Centers.
