We are looking for a motivated SLP with a desire for programmatic development and clinical experience in medical speech language pathology for inpatient and outpatient care. The ideal candidate will have a background in caring for the veteran population within the VA Healthcare system. We are searching for a highly motivated and independent provider. Qualified GS11 and GS12 candidates will be considered.
Our VA is a small, rural medical center, located in mid-Vermont on the Vermont/New Hampshire border. The tour of duty would be Monday – Friday, 8 hour days. Compressed tours may be available upon request. We are a level 2 facility that provides both outpatient and inpatient care including up to 25 med/surg beds, 7 ICU beds, 10 psych unit beds, and 14 residential recovery beds.
The daily workload will be comprised of both inpatient and outpatient service delivery for a broad variety of impairments. The patient population will include patients with speech, language, or cognitive, voice, TBI, PTSD, dysphagia, augmentative and alternative communication needs, and on rare occasions tracheostomy and ventilator dependency as well as long standing laryngectomy and TEP management. Experience with modified barium swallow evaluations and evidenced based treatment will be an essential function required. There will be opportunities for growth and development of future programs including resumption of an aphasia and cognitive rehabilitation group and planned development of a fiberoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing program. This is a friendly environment with a significant amount of close collaboration with highly skilled and easily accessible colleagues from various departments including Otolaryngology, Geriatric Medicine, Hospitalists and Primary Care as well as Neurology and Physiatry.
