Patients with dysphagia complaints that have within normal limit results on objective assessment but continue to complain of discomfort, such as persistent globus, have benefitted from addressing function and tongue posture. Myofunctional therapy is function based, pairing their principles for dysphagia therapy demonstrates objective improvements.
Christina Goodheart, MA, CCC-SLP, BCS-S, is a speech therapist from Staten Island, New York, with over 10 years experience helping patients and their families with speech, language, cognitive-linguistic, communication, feeding and swallowing disorders. In 2015, Christina earned board certification in swallowing and swallowing disorders (BCS-S) from the American Board for Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders (ABSSD), she was the first and is currently the only SLP in Staten Island with that certification. She has completed specialist training for swallowing assessment including the
