About the event

Reflective practice and supervision is rooted in infant mental health principles which emphasize the importance of a secure relationship to optimize learning and growth. Reflective practice and supervision has been shown to enhance both supervisee and client growth, improve the clinician’s ability to emotionally support supervisees and clients, and reduce clinician burnout. This psychologically-informed approach can guide clinicians in how to respond to challenging questions (e.g., “Will my spouse ever speak again?”) and contain anxieties of clients, family members, and supervisees.


Dawn Neenan, MS, CCC-SLP currently works as a speech-language pathologist and clinical educator at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital in the inpatient setting with adults and the outpatient settings with adults and pediatrics. She was introduced to reflective practice/supervision while working as Project Coordinator of the Early Intervention Specialization within the Brooklyn College graduate SLP program where she was mentored by Dr. Elaine Geller.
